Nokia files suit against Apple for patent infringements: expect a long, protracted if not fascinating battle The next iPhone unlock will be available in a few days, and you better believe it will be *free*

So today Telus announced that they would match Rogers pricing for the iPhone 3GS 16GB and 32GB for new customers (and some lucky qualifying hardware upgrade Rogers customers who got these prices):  $200 and $300, respectively.

Of course my question is:  what do you charge per month?  And what do you get for that?

Reason being of course is that whatever they charge per month, and the services they actually provide, are the killer:  you sign a three year contract and get a $200 or $300 phone.  It makes a difference if you even pay a dollar or two more each month.  And what do you get for it?  Visual voicemail? Call display?  Call forwarding? Texting, and how much?

The biggest monthly killer will be the data cost, perhaps:  I snagged the $30/6GB per month data plan with Rogers when it was available.  That gives me virtually unlimited surfing.

Also, in January Rogers may start charging for tethering, connecting your laptop to your iPhone and using their data network to go on the web.  No one knows yet how much that will cost, with any of the wireless carriers offering the iPhone.

Time will tell.  You know they say the devil is in the details, and we have yet to see the devil’s face yet.  Let’s hope it’s a little friendly–like ‘the future.’  Which is now, or very soon at least.

an interesting fact is that online they are publishing the non-contract prices. so this might mean you can pick one up at a hefty price but you aren’t obligated to pay huge monthly plan prices. dunno, the plan options are still secret but we’re getting iphones folks!!!!! finally telus…..

oh yeah, and the`’fine print’ says something about the prices listed including a 50 dollar voice/data plan combined. i think many of us are at about that amount so… less gouging???

Highly unlikely. I currently have an unlimited data plan and I am willing to be that it wont be eligible for the iPhone. I have never gone over 600megs of data in a month but hey who knows because I always used a BlackBerry and they have crazy data compression
