made2dock charges your iPhone while in a case

If you’re like me iPhone dock-wise, you don’t want to take your iPhone out of that case you searched so hard for to charge it. Right now, I’m rocking the Epik resin case, and although it’s slim, sleek and yet surprisingly ‘grippy,’ there is no chance it will fit in most iPhone docks case-on.

To the rescue comes Dan O’Neall, creator of the made2dock, a sleek, beautiful cylinder of docking goodness. Keep this on your desk in order to charge your iPhone and you just can’t help but admire it. Yes, sometimes we have to admit it: we like beautiful things.

The dock connector cable comes built-in. Your iPhone sits neatly and securely, at a similar angle to Apple iPhone docks, without any need for adapters or extenders. The dock comes in three sizes: a no-case thin size; a medium size for slim cases; and a thick pocket size for thicker cases. My Epik case stays on and fits in the medium size made2dock.

Dan milled a groove so that there is access to the home button. At the moment, sound is slightly muffled–this is a charger, not a player–but he is experimenting with sound solutions. (If you need to play while you charge, you might think about the Griffin AirCurve, which is a non-electric natural amplifier, and also can be a charger if you hook in your dock connector cable. But can you use it with a case-on?)

Dan’s next innovation is an anodized black version; I have one on order to complement my silver made2dock. Additionally, he has made a version that fits slickly in a desk with a 3″ or so cutout. Pictures below for that as well. As one commenter has said, it will make you want to cut a hole in your desk!

Docks are $29.95 US plus shipping. Quality and feel is fantastic, so I recommend this excellent product. It’s a small price to pay for not having to have your iPhone lay down on your desk; even if it is protected by that special case you searched so hard for; and especially if you don’t feel like taking that case off to charge, or stand up and charge, your iPhone.
