Using iPhone 3G or 3GS to tether (to connect to your computer and use the *phone* as a modem) What’s new in the new operating system, iPhone 3.0? Why upgrade from 2.x? Here’s what, here’s why. With 3G and 3GS.

At this time last year, I was totally hyped about getting the iPhone and for the fact that it was officially coming to Canada. This time around, I think I will just stick with my 3G….for now anyways.  Why? I guess the main reason would be that I don’t want to pay $700 or $800 whatever it is. I think I could get one for about $500 under their special upgrade policy but that is still a little much for me right now. My bill is not over $100 a month so I’m out of luck there too. I was willing to pay full price last year, not this year.

The 3GS does look great though. Faster processing, video recording, a better camera, etc. I do like it. I also really like the 3.0 software. If I couldn’t have the 3.0 on my 3G, I would have a much better reason to upgrade so soon. I am totally excited about the tethering. I haven’t had to use it yet, but I did get good usage out of pdanet and iPhoneModem. Too bad for our friends in the USA who can’t use it. We will see if Rogers/Fido decide to add a surcharge on tethering come Dec 31st. I hope not, but I’m betting on it.

I thought Apple would have changed the design of it a bit. But I guess they didn’t want to mess with a good thing. They could have introduced some new colours or maybe a matte backing. But, the functionality is more important and the device itself is a piece of art. Let’s hope the cracking problem doesn’t appear on the 3GS.

I’m surprised that the 3GS came out so soon after the announcement. It’s good to see that Rogers is on the ball. I’m also really surprised that Fido decided to pick it up as well. I thought they would phase out the iPhone and continue with their value brand ways. Can’t complain though, I’m a fan of Fido and they made the right decision.

Anyone else just sticking with the 3G now? Or have you taken the plunge and went with the 3GS? Any first gen’ers still hanging around?

Oh yeah, welcome back to ehPhone!

I am glad to have you back! I rooted for you thats for sure!!

I am sticking with the 3G for now unless someone buys my 3G and does not want me to ship it to Nigeria.

It will be interesting to see what they do after the 31st. But then again we all bought our 6gb plans back before the end of september 2008.

Cant wait to see more stories, reviews and giveways from you man!!

    Welcome back :)

Going to pick up my 3G S on Wednesday. I qualify for the upgrade to the 32GB one for $299 and going to sell my existing one for a big chunk of that.

On Fido, likely not updating because it would cost $699 for 32G. Oh well, may be a good thing as I will wait another year and maybe get a 64G.

    Good u’r back.

Will keep my 3G. No plans to upgrade.

Question for you: Can you upgrade to 3.0 if your iPhone is unlock?

  7. 7. ruffdeezy Says:

Upgrading will break unlock and jailbreak. I’m sure they are working on a new unlock and jailbreak. Will get myself up to date.
