Rogers name display now working on iPhones?

Rogers' name display now working on iPhones?

There are some scattered reports that the Name Display feature is working on people’s iPhones lately, with some speculation that Rogers may be working on either a fix to include it (or, for the more cynical, some way to charge for the ‘added’ service).

What can you report?  Have names that aren’t in your contact list shown up when you get calls?  Did it work for a while recently and then stop?  Still going?

Oh, while we’re on the subject of Name Display, have you ever wanted *your* name to be displayed differently on other people’s phones (where the feature actually works) when you make a call?  You can revise your outgoing name using this Rogers’ online form:

Change your name for name display

Keep in mind that you can’t change it to “Unknown” or “Private Number.”  Or anything offensive.  Other than that…

Enjoy.

Name Display is a great feature…

But I don’t think I get a call from someone NOT in my address book already often enough to notice whether or not it functions.

Hi, I work as a wireless tech support agent for Rogers Wireless specializing in iPhone support… I deal with this issue constantly, and I though I should share some info; still NO official support for name display on 3.0 whatsoever as of 06/27/09. Sure, they may be “testing” it but it’s intermittent at best, no guarantees. My personal recommendation? DO NOT pay for name display until officially announced. Hope that helps someone, peace!

Hi Andre. I just got the 3Gs yesterday. I was under the impression that the iPhone will display names of people in your contact list if they call, whether or not you have call display as a feature in your Rogers account. Is this true, and if it is, why is this not working on my phone right now? I synced my phone with my itunes and all contacts transfered over to the phone. wondering why is still get “unknown” when these people call?

    Cheers
    Briggie

ibriggie, you need Call Display to get *any* names to display, and for now they must be in your contact list for the name (and picture, if you assigned one) to show up when they call. There is no way around that–but that’s as with any phone or service–they all charge for call display unless it’s part of some package, so I guess they all charge somehow. The only exception is pay as you go plans. So all you will get is unknown until you cough up for call display. I’d get it with a value pack for the best, well, value.

I actually got a call from my parents, who aren’t in my contact list, and it showed their name today when they called, I was actually surprised. I’m hoping it stays like this.

name display is working but you cannot see the name after you answer the call or if it is a miss call. you can only see the number. it will be helpful if we can see the name after the call to add in the contact.

I actually noticed name display on my iphone 3gs…People say i was seeing things but i assure you I am not! Furthermore, only the number remained in the history. It only happened to me once so far :(

“Name display” on Iphone 3GS has been working for me only if I’m already on a call and I get the second call. So the second call shows up as a name displayed call. Can someone else test this and report back here please?

I got a Rogers Iphone 3GS last week. The guy who sold it to me with the package ($60 Iphone package in Ontario) told me that my contacts would show up (number and/or if pic was assigned) and I didn’t need Call Display for my contacts and their pics (if assigned) to show up. This is also in the Rogers Iphone Guide. Not only does that not work, I can’t even individualize ringtones from the standards that are on the Iphone.

I was on tech support with Rogers tonight for over 3 hours. Both guys gave up and said I should return my phone. I don’t want to do this if all else is ok although I’ve needed to do a soft reset after each charge tonight for some bizarre reason. I thought Apple sold reliable products! Any advice??

  12. 12. mMichael Says:

How does Rogers’ inability to activate caller id on your line make this an Apple reliability issue?

The clerk who sold you the phone was obviously mistaken, and the techs were ineffective. Call back during business hours and try again. Let us know how it goes.

Hi call display and name display work but they are blocking it to play around with us like they did with mms video camera etc….

I’ve noticed that when ur on call and u get second call u will see name display

I have Name display provisioned thru Rogers. I didn’t have a name showing when a call (that wasn’t in my Contact list) came it, it just showed the #, but my buddy also with 3Gs iPhone was able to see the name displayed. We swapped SIM cards and tested I still only saw the number, where as he saw the name. This clearly proved that it was not an issue with Rogers or my account setup. Next step I restored the iPhone to new without any downloaded apps and now I can receive Names of callers. So clearly it seems to be an app that is possibly holding a memory space or something similar. Will continue testing by installing 1 app at a time

I am a Fido Employe and I am using iPhone 3g and with 3.1.2 my name display actually works now I actually had to call in and make my change to my value pack to acually include name display wich was not the case for the original iPhone value pack.
