Comparing Fido’s new iPhone plan to Rogers ehPhone.ca coming back online!

With Fido’s big change and all, is it possible that they would decide to drop the iPhone? I mean it is possible. They’ve basically redesigned the brand to make it like Koodo Mobile. What is the point of Koodo Mobile? Talk and text. That is Fido’s new motto. Talk and text at low prices.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that it seems that they have dropped the 3 year contract. On everything except the iPhone that is. The iPhone doesn’t seem to fit in Fido’s new business model. Eventually they will also want to get rid of all their old plans (including city fido). This will probably take time though, maybe years.

But, Fido does still have the Samsung Jack so it’s not like they are outlawing smartphones all together. But the Samsung Jack seems like it is some kind of special order phone only now. It still seems weird to me though that they would only offer a 3 year contract on one phone. How about selling the iPhone on a 2 year plan? Not likely.

I still have Fido pride and I’m glad I didn’t have to switch to Rogers. If only they would get rid of the SAF on all plans.

While the iPhone is well known for its internet usage, it also does talk and text very very well. So I think in some ways its outside of Fido, but in some ways it fits in.

I think Rogers is, however, looking to drop Fido at some point.

Good point, drop the whole thing, not just a phone

it’s unlikely that Rogers would be thinking of dumping Fido - if anything just the opposite, given competition from Koodo(Telus) and soon-to-be new wireless competitors coming next year, like Globalive and others.

the rebranding of Fido is surely part of Rogers strategy to cover a different part of the market than the mainstream Rogers brand, just as Koodo is doing for Telus. not a sign they might drop Fido, at all.

I agree iPhone doesn’t seem to fit the new Fido image, but I guess they’d just keep it, as part of a limited smartphone offering. it’s probably incredibly profitable for them, after all..

don’t forget, the wireless companies have a long history of grandfathering old plans and whatnot - maybe they just keep a low profile on iPhone from now on, keep supporting it with maybe very limited plans offered, and if people really want it in future just try to steer them towards Rogers (with more diverse plans and other smartphone choices)

iPhone is very bad at text messaging. Anyways, I don’t think they will drop iPhone at Fido.

Now Rogers offers high ends phones while Fido is the opposite. It doesn’t matter anyways. More than half of the Fido customers are using unlock oversea phones anyways.

Are you kidding me? The iPhone is the BEST phone for txting. And you don’t have proof for the over seas phone thing, so why state it?

  6. 6. Alessandro Says:

How can any phone be bad at text messaging? Doesn’t make sense to me. Unless it’s missing a keyboard :|.

  7. 7. Top Cat Says:

    @Momin

Have you even try a “real” phone for texting like the Blackberry for example?

iPhone uses projected capacitive technology which means stylus and nail won’t work on the touch screen. Do need I go on more with the same visual keyboard?

Don’t get me wrong. I have an iPhone with Palringo, FlyCast, Google Earth and all the other fun stuff. But saying iPhone is the best phone for texting? What are you smoking?

The auth dealers themselves at Fido are all selling oversea phones at their stores.

  8. 8. Kaitlyn Says:

@ Top Cat - I have had a lot of different cell phones, including a Blackberry and my iPhone has the best texting I have ever used. The virtual keyboard works very well and I hated how my Blackberry’s spell check worked. The only thing I miss is the custom dictionary and I can deal with that.

    @TopCat

Don’t put down the iPhone’s keyboard just because you have ugly long fingernails.

  10. 10. JackAshley Says:

iPhone does such a good job texting…you can be so inaccurate and it seems to know what you wanted to type!! I drunk text with it all the time, and my texts actually still make sense to the recipients! Well…the words are good, the message is often a little off yet…

  11. 11. Lee Says:

Agreed! I love texting on the iphone!!! I think it’s great too!!! I am so disappointed that Fido’s big change. I love their old theme, and the new theme just seems a bit off!! Anyway, I still love fido though!!

  12. 12. Ty Says:

    “iPhone tops RAZR sales”
    “iPhone ousts Blackberry sales”
“iPhone top handeld phone in US”

Yeah if Fido knows what they’re doing I think it’s in their best interest to keep the iPhone on their shelves…

The ROGERS iphone plans being MUCH BETTER than the fido iphone plans says it all…… it is to get people on ROGERS iphone and ween them from Fido.

At the moment, the iphone sticks out like a very sexy sore thumb at Fido. Its like a mansion in a welfare development…. matter of time.

  14. 14. whatinhellisthat? Says:

BTW, Rogers will never give up Fido, to think they would goes against any common sense whatsoever. You expect Rogers, who fought to get control of Fido to hold onto their GSM monopoly is now going to sell Fido to the competition or try to merge all customers to the Rogers brand LOL…. wow. Not going to happen.

There are so many people who hate Rogers and DON’T even know that Fido is owned by them…. in other words, let sleeping dogs lie.

  19. 19. AJ Says:

  20. 20. Nitar Says:

I like ehphone’s website, more thoughts, less reviews.

  21. 21. Teebs Says:

If it has anything to do with my harsh criticism last month, I’m sorry!

I was only doing it because I’ve never won any of those damn cool prizes you give away!

I miss the site buddy, I take back what I said earlier. I was comfortable coming here daily and chatting up the latest iphone news. It might not mean much now but I miss coming here daily!!!!

Anyone know how to determine what 1GB of data would get you? If you stay signed on to MSN all the time will that get eaten up quick, or is there minimal traffic to keep one signed on? Also, can you divert to WiFi where 802.11 is available to save on your 1GB quota?

    S

  25. 25. Ari Says:

1 GB of data is plenty for most people. That said, yeh you can stay on msn, browse facebook a few times a day.. browse the net and stuff.. and you should be fine. However, if you do use Internet Radio.. then it will start eating up your data really fast! And if you leave your WiFi option on.. then yeh .. it will connect to a network whenever possible.. to save you even more!

  26. 26. Strike Says:

It seems like…once York U went on strike, this site has went on strike as well.
    This sucks =(

  27. 27. dslitedstt Says:

SYSTEM ACCESS FEE, SYSTEM ACCESS FEE, FIDO DROPPED THEIRS BECAUSE OF THEE.

Apple killed Canada’s data rape monopoly
    Koodo killed the SAF

Can’t wait to see what the others will do….

I wonder if Ted Turner is getting the same 500kbps download speeds on 7.2Mbps 3G like me, or if they installed a tower on his grave stone.

    R.I.P data rapist.

  28. 28. Kaitlyn Says:

Merry Christmas Ruff, miss your updates.

  29. 29. setevenjj Says:
