I have talked about all of these different ‘iPhone Killers’ or ‘iPhone Wannabees’ in the past. So far they have all turned out to be wannabees. I thought this particular Blackberry was going to be called the Blackberry Thunder but it looks as if it will be the Blackberry Storm.
What is the Blackberry Storm? A Blackberry with a touch screen.
Is that a good thing? Probably for some. But I do think most people are either iPhone or Blackberry. If people like the iPhone, they are going to get the iPhone. The iPhone has the multimedia and coolness factor going for it. The Blackberry has great email functions. Apple could improve some features with the iPhone’s email.
I wonder if Blackberry faithfuls will like the Storm, because I don’t see a bunch of iPhone owners switching over or people mulling over one or the other. Although, I would like to get my hands on one to test it out, Telus if you are reading this, send me one, I will do a fair writeup on it.
Here are some of the features:
- CDMA phone but with GSM connectivity so it is a ‘world phone’
- Removable battery - 15 days standby, 6 hours talk time
- Micro SD slot - comes with 1gb card
- 3.25 inch screen - touch and click
- 3.5 mega pixel camera
The Blackberry Storm is coming to Telus in time for the Christmas season. What are your thoughts on it?
Here’s a Vodafone ad for the Storm, looks ok to me…
…but I’m still an iPhone faithful

I really don’t like the screen being a button idea. I can see where they could think it’s good, but to me it would get annoying typing texts and emails.

I believe the touch screen is a sort of like a double tap which I think is quite odd.

The “click-feel” touch screen does help the Storm a lot in typing compare to the iPhone.
Right now the only advantage I can see from the iPhone is its successful App Store which Blackberry owners cannot have.

For people who want to do serious business phone they aren’t going to get this OR the iphone. They’ll get a more professional Blackberry. Blackberry will make a MUCH better PHONE in terms of battery life, talk quality, email/web browsing and we all know the iphone sucks for those things. But in terms of media and the fun factor they won’t be able to compete. Just depends what you want. Either way this is catering to a demographic that would prefer to get an iphone since media is a key component and apple has been making ipods for almost a decade now.
Either way…GO CANADA!
