It has been ‘confirmed’. We will see new iPhone plans on Rogers and Fido come October 1st. These will replace the joke plans that they are currently offering.
Here are the details:
$60
1GB Data
250 Daytime Minutes
Unlimited Evenings and Weekends from 7
Unlimited Network calling
Visual Voice Mail
75 SMS
Rogers / Fido Hotspots
$75
2GB Data
400 Daytime Minutes
Unlimited Evenings and Weekends from 7
Unlimited Network calling
Visual Voice Mail
100 SMS
Rogers / Fido Hotspots
Only available on a 3 Year Term
These plans included data overage protection. That means, if you go over your data allotment, the most you will pay is $100 extra.
These are a little better than what Rogers/Fido originally offered. Those plans were a joke and I’m glad people revolted against them because that is what brought the $30 - 6gb plan. I do think these plans pass the ‘reasonable’ test. They barely pass it though. The biggest problem that is still left out is the lack of caller ID. Anyone who gets one of these plans is still going to have to add caller id or one of the value packs so they get that and more texts. Caller ID is conviently left out so they can get at least another $8 a month from you.
If you are one of the 10 people who signed up for an official ‘iPhone plan’, make sure you confirm that you are switched to one of the new ones so you get the extra data and minutes.
What do you think of these plans?

September 24th, 2008 at 3:35 amThose plans are a start. I picture better plans, same pricing coming in preparation for the 32GB iPhones.
But what about the separate GB package deals? Are they monthly plans or do you have to sign up for 3 years?

September 24th, 2008 at 7:18 amSK13 - the new plans aren’t all that day. They aren’t great when you compare then to the U.S. - but they are a lot better than they were before.
As for data usage - I love having 6GB, but I have had my phone since launch and I have used just over 2GB total. I think a lot of people are finding they don’t need that much data and could be scaling back to one of these new plans to save some money.
We’ll see. -

September 24th, 2008 at 10:29 amThere’s a even more important reason to go with the 6Gig plan… Data roaming in the US with this plan is only about $6 for 14MB. With the pay as you go plan, it’s dollars per Kbyes…
They didn’t know if the discounted data rate would carry over with the newer data plans.

September 24th, 2008 at 5:24 pmWow. SK13
You have that plan for $20 and you are still complaining? I get nothing like that.
I guess that’s human’s nature. You want the best and you want it cheap. :)

September 24th, 2008 at 8:56 pmthese new plans are actually not bad. I signed up for that $17.5 plan just last week, and I am still thinking if I should add the $30 data plan. But then if you think about it, wouldnt the $30 data+ $17.5 plan much cheaper than this one? Even if you add a $11 value package which includes all the voice mail, caller display blah blah blah, it’ll still be cheaper than the $60 plan, isnt it?

September 25th, 2008 at 8:24 pmAnother option, is to get the $25 Rogers student plan with MY10 and add the 6GB data. That will make a good bundle too.

14. Dave Says:
September 26th, 2008 at 9:21 amCan you actually get the $17.50 promo plan with an iPhone?
I thought that you were restricted to getting on of the pre-made plans + the 6GB option if you wanted it.IF you are actually allow the $17.50 plan + the 6GB, I’m going to run out and get that this weekend! Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

September 26th, 2008 at 9:40 pmYes, you can definitely get the 17.5 promo plan+ $30 (6GB) data plan, no problem at all. I got the $17.5 plan+$11 value package at Fido. They did ask me to sign up for the $30 data plan, but I didnt (which I might now). It’s just if you sign up for a plan that is under $35, you’ll have to pay more for the iphone ($50more).
Another thing, it seems better to sign up with Fido, because the unlimited evening for the promo plan starts at 5pm, where Rogers starts at 6pm (add $2 if you want it to start at 5pm).
Hope it helps!!! -

September 27th, 2008 at 12:27 amforget about the new iphone plan if you can get $17.5 voice + $30 data, even with the $15 visual voice plan, the total price is $62.5. compare to the $60 iphone plan,
the $62.5 plan has:
+ 2500 sms messages
+ caller id
+ early evening at 5pm
+ 3G dataand doesn’t have:
- less daytime minute (250 to 200)
- Unlimited Network calling
- Rogers / Fido Hotspotsi will stick with my current plan tho. btw, what is Rogers / Fido Hotspots?

October 1st, 2008 at 8:42 amthe new iPhone plans are everything there exept that there isn’t unlimited network calling. Besides that, everything said in the entry is right. I think these plans are somewhat reasonable but I would like to see caller ID included, I’d be nice to have something so basic included…
