App Store Review: Cro-Mag Rally iPhone 3G dock review and contest

iPhone firmware 2.0.1 was released today from Apple. I think it is fantastic just to hit update and not have to worry about whether or not your iPhone will be bricked or not, which apps will work or not, etc. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about that, but I will follow the news for first gen iPhone owners. Pwnage and winpwn are not working with 2.0.1 yet. Once the programs are updated, I’m not sure if it will be worth it to go through the entire process again just for a couple minor fixes.

I was excited as this was the first time that I’ve ever ‘updated’ and iPhone. All other times I’ve only ‘restored’ them. This update just fixes bugs with the previous firmware (2.0). I’m not sure what these bugs are but they could be what was taking the iPhone so long to sync and why apps were crashing.

It’s pretty easy to update. Just hit ‘download and install’. The file size for 2.0.1 is 249.2 mb so it should take you 5-10 minutes to download. It will then back up your phone so you don’t lose any apps or info on it. If you’ve never updated your iPhone before, check out the video below to see the process. The total process takes about 20 minutes (the video is not that long).

Here’s the video:

How did your update go?

It probably will soon if not yet. But it is nice not having to worry about that.

    @ Charles
I would just wait if you jailbroke it, there probably isn’t that much difference between 2.0 and 2.0.1. It’s not worth the headache right now if something goes wrong. Wait until there is some kind of official announcement.

Updated. Took about 15 minutes. VNC Lite is less crash prone. No more contacts lag (my biggest peeve) and keyboard is more responsive.

    Yeah contacts lag was frustrating…

I found the pwnage info at modmyifone.com,

“The current versions of Pwnage and WinPwn will not work with 2.0.1 right now!! Stay posted for updates to these programs!!-ajl917″

and IIRC, the iphone dev team got a beta 2.0.1 earlier and said they had iPhoneV1 jailbreak working, but not 3G.

When you made an update, did you have jailbraked iPhone 3G or just contracted one?

  9. 9. ruffdeezy Says:

My iPhone 3G isn’t jailbroken…probably wont be either

dev team says do not update if you want a 3G unlock/jailbreak? in the near future.

no idea, i just wanna unlock it for just one month, if not so, i’ll stay with it, not to unlock/jailbreak it…
