The good thing about the first generation iPhone was that it came with a dock. That was a pretty good idea that Apple had to include it. I guess that had to when you were paying $399 or $499 for the phone. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t include the dock with the iPhone 3G. I guess it would save them money not to include it and would make them money on all the sales of the dock.
That being said, the iPhone 3G dock is a must have. It’s much better just to be able to stick your iPhone into the dock to charge and/or connect to your computer instead of having to plug in the connector all the time. I like having my iPhone stand up in front of me while on the computer. It just makes things easier to have the dock.
It’s $29 for the iPhone 3G dock. It’s not a bad price for it. I wish they would have included another USB connector cable with it though. If you want another one of those, it’s another $19. The Universal dock is not compatible with the iPhone 3G, neither is the old iPhone dock. The Universal dock will fit your old iPod, iPhone, etc, but you will have to get the adapter for $9 if you want to use it with your iPhone 3G. I know it feels like we are getting nickle and dimed but for $29, it’s alright.

Heh. I’m kinda ticked that my 1st Gen iPhone stuff doesn’t work for iPhone 3G. I’ve got a car charger I have for the first iPhone which says “incompatible” on 3G. GRRRRRrrr. Means I have to rebuy my charger now.

But I’d like to note that 3g phone will work on the Apple Universal dock (no TV out one and comes with 1st gen adapter), and it won’t work on the iPod Universal dock (the one that comes with all the iPod adapters except one for 1st gen iPhone).
The universal dock fits the phone even if you leave your case on! I have a Belkin clear acrylic case on right now.
