Rogers and Fido customers are still facing lengthy waits if they placed their iPhone order by phone. It can be the most frustrating thing ever to wait to receive a new gadget that you desperately want. When I order something online (once in a while by phone) I sit at the computer and refresh the tracking details constantly to figure out where my toy is. I can’t imagine waiting weeks to receive an iPhone by mail. Unfortunately that is the case as it stands.

I remember when I called in on July 24th to inquire about upgrade eligibility, the recorded message stated that 16gb iPhones were sold out and they were making a list. Well if you did happen to place your iPhone order on July 24th, the expected date of delivery is now August 22nd. Are you kidding me? I hope none of the readers here are in that situation. To add salt to the wounds, if you place your order by phone, even if it has not shipped yet, you are not allowed to cancel the order and just buy one in the store. That is frustrating for many people because the stock levels in stores are far better today than what they were on July 24th.

Here’s an email some Fido customers have been receiving:

Hello, In light of the great interest in acquiring the iPhone 3G, we are currently processing a high volume of requests. As a result, the delivery date for your iPhone 3G has been revised, and has been postponed at the latest, to August 22.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and wish to thank you for your patience.

    Interestingly, I ordered mine (16gb black) via telephone about 4 days after it launched. UPS brought it to my doorstep 3 (!) days later. I guess I was a lucky one.

    I am in exactly this situation. I ordered (16gb wt) on the 24th, expecting to wait a week or so, since I knew they were out of stock.

    Well, two weeks later I called and they told me I’d have to wait until August 23rd! Weirder than that, they didn’t even have my name down as a customer, or record of the number they’d reserved for me. I guess I’ll be calling back when I get a minute. Maybe if they’ve “lost” my order I’ll just see if they have them at the store.

    I ordered my replacement on the 25th, and I got mine today, August 7. Two weeks, ish. Well, but then again, Rogers called me on the 31st to tell me they have my iPhone picked up by UPS.

    my girl ordered her 3g(16gb white) over the phone after she dropped her 2g in the toilet. she ordered on the 25th and ups brought it on the 28th.

    i was in that situation. received the e-mail and everything.

    but luckily, mine arrived today.

    i think it’s also important to note that they aren’t even letting you buy it in stores (even if you didn’t place an order via phone). most of us are being told that you can only order the iphone over the telephone if you are doing so under the new eligibility guidelines (leaving people with no choice but to wait–painstakingly).

    i ordered on July 24. I even asked if I could pick one up at a store, but the CSR said the stores only give iphones to new contracts. And I was already on a contract but luckily met the criteria to get the phone without any stupid admin fees

    That’s false about the new contracts, that’s what they want you to think so they get their commission. When I got mine in the store, the person next to me was upgrading his account.

    well I have to say I really dislike how Fido (and I guess Rogers) has been handling this. On july 24, the first time I called, the CSR tried to trick me and make me wait until I’m into the 12th month of my contract in order to squeeze the admin fee from me. Thanks to the info on this site, I called back later and then got my iphone without the admin fee as how it should be. Both CSR’s I talked to said I cannot upgrade at a store, so I was just happy to get one and didn’t mind the shipping delay. Anyways, I’m just gonna take it as it is, as long as I’m not getting screwed (like I almost was with the first CSR i talked to) I’m content to wait a little longer lol

    The best thing to do to upgrade an iPhone is to go to the stores. Not just one store, go around and find one that has iPhone in stock first.

    If the store told you that you can’t upgrade without a data plan, they are lying to you. Go to another store that will do it for you. (unless you are not eligible to upgrade)

    CSRs don’t get commissions if you are doing just an upgrade or an iPhone new activation so I don’t see why CRS would “tried” to trick a customer. The wait time is long for shipping. 2 weeks for 16GB iPhone is normal.

    PS: If you order your iPhone before August, you could have waived your admin fee easily. If you order your phone after July, good luck fighing with the CSRs.

    Same here ordered (16gb balck) on the 24th with fido was initially told by aug 7 then the 15 and now the 29, some people are reporting sept 10th, Fido is extremely evasive on the subject when you call them.

    I’m so fed up with Fido I don’t know what to do anymore, talk about horror stories. Hold on, long story…

    Another employee and I were given Fido cell phones when we started our new jobs and were told we could upgrade them to smart phones. I’d planned to switch over to blackerrys on another company, but noticed that the iPhone was coming out in a few weeks and figured we could just use our $450 fido dollars to do it, easy as pie.

    The phones were both in the name of a former employee and I ended up having no control over our account (OK, my company’s dumb mistake on this one). I had to find him and get him to call in and switch them over. When I did this I outlined to the CSR that I planned to use the Fido dollars to pick up iPhones in store on the 11th. He said no problem and after a bit told me I was good to go.

    Then the real trouble started…

    I happened to be near a Fido store on the 10th and figured I’d stop in and make sure there’d be no problems the next day. Glad I did! I was told that because I’d switched the account over I was now considered a “new customer” and my account was effectively frozen, no changes and no using Fido dollars for 90 days. However, the Fido store clerk told me that I could get an “exception form” filled out for me by calling in and get them shipped out to me within a week. Okay, sounds fine.

    I did that the next day and all seemed good to go. there was plenty of stock when I called and I was told I’d have it by July 19 at the latest.

    Well, the 19th came and went and I called in to get a tracking number, I was told there wasn’t one on file, but that they had shipped and I could call UPS with my cell # and get the tracking number. I did this and was told whoever shipped them must have forgotten to attach my number, but that if they’d shipped they’d be there by the end of the week.

    It was at this point that my voicemail unceremoniously quit working. They’d switched me prematurely to visual voicemail and it took them an hour on the phone to figure out the number I had to call on my old Nokia to access it (I still can’t delete messages btw).

    End of the week came and went and they still weren’t there. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited a few more days until August 1, then called in. I was told that they’d been returned undeliverable (no-one called me despite the fact that I’m pretty sure they have my cell #). The funny thing is that I finally got the tracking numbers and UPS had tried to deliver them to a completely different city (I work in Toronto… on Yonge Street… a block from Yonge and Bloor… with the building number in giant silver numbers on the front of the building… and they were sending them to the same address that’s on my account and that my bills go to every month!)

    The CSR told me he’d send more out right away and they’d be there by the 9th… You can probably see what’s coming next here. The 9th came and went and no phones, so I called in and was told they hadn’t even shipped yet, and that they were completely out of stock. I asked them nicely what happened to the two phones that had been briefly on their way to me and why they couldn’t just re-ship them. I was told they were cycled back into the regular stock, and guaranteed a date of end of August.

    I told them this was unacceptable and asked if I could just cancel my account to get Blackberrys somewhere else. They sent me over to customer relations at this point (as I believe is policy for possible cancellations). And was asked what they could do to get me to stay. I told them the only way I’d stay is if I could go pick up phones from a Fido store, but explained that i was in the 90 day freeze-zone. The CSR said he would see if they could make an exception and after a few minutes came back and told me it was all set up and I could pick them up whenever I liked (the only catch being that I would have to pay for them up front and have my Fido dollars credited on my bill–no biggie. He was even nice enough to call me back and let me know that to switch it over he had to temporarily change my plan but that I could switch it back when I picked up the phones.

    So the next day I headed to the Fido store aglow with iPhone giddiness… but nope. Apparently the CSR had screwed up and I was still bound by the 90 day freeze-zone. The Fido store rep couldn’t even access my account (she was very nice about it, although after about 45 minutes of waiting to put things through she realized the problem 5 minutes after the Fido customer relations department had closed). I walked home in the rain dejected.

    So this morning I called Fido annoyed and asked to be put right through to customer relations. The initial CSR wouldn’t actually let me through until I said it was about a possible cancellation. she actually said… and I quote “those are the words I needed to hear” then put me through.

    The customer relations person was of the rude and ineffectual type (which just made me more annoyed). She told me that the CSR who told me I could go to the store was wrong (and barely apologized for it) and that it was UPS’ fault that they were mis-shipped (even though it was their fault my phone number wasn’t attached to the order so I could correct the mistake). She told me that there were no possible exceptions that would allow me to pick them up in store, but that she could guarantee me they would be there the first week of September (a week after the guarantee date I’d had prior to the Fido store excursion). She then went on to tell me that she would first have to make sure the exception forms (remember those from when I first ordered the phones) would actually go through and that it was no longer a guarantee–despite the fact that phones had already been shipped out to me at one point. I told her that this was unacceptable customer service and that if I couldn’t get the phones either shipped to me immediately or pick them up by the end of the week in store, I’d like to cancel my account and use my Fido dollars to pay my last two bills.

    She said no, flatly. She said not only could I not use my Fido dollars on the bills (I’ll admit I kind of expected this much) but that I also couldn’t use the Fido dollars at all because of the 90 day freeze-zone and that I couldn’t even cancel my account and take the numbers until the freeze-zone was over. The funny thing is that she told me over and over that i needed to respect the delivery deadline (to which I told her over and over that I did respect the deadline, but that i’d already been given several deadlines that hadn’t been met). She also kept telling me I was a new customer (to which I repeatedly pointed out that the account had been in existence for over three years). She closed this off by telling me that the new Fido policy is “no goodwill” on iPhones; I don’t know exactly what this portends but it doesn’t sound like it should be coming from the wireless provider voted “Highest in Customer Satisfaction”-fido.ca.

    I asked to speak to her supervisor and was told no repeatedly. At this point i was fairly irate (although holding it together for the sake of not being blacklisted), and told her I’d think about it. She told me she’d check into the exception forms and call me back.

    She never did call back, but near the end of the day when I was less irate (beaten down and subdued I’d say). I called back and spoke to a regular CSR and explained the situation. He was fairly nice about it and told me that the order from before I’d gone to the Fido store was still pending and that I could expect them by Aug. 24.

    He offered to forgive my special $15 iPhone bonus bundle at this point for the trouble… What?!?!? This is when I asked him if I was actually being charged the $30/month 3G data plan with no iPhone (3G does not do much on my 5-yr old Nokia). He actually seemed ashamed at this point and offered to take the data plan off as well.

    So here I sit, unable to cancel, unable to use Fido dollars, unable to get an iPhone (btw it was the 8gig models I needed, not even the rare 16gigs). In the last month I have been on the phone with Fido for over 20 hours, either with CSR’s who treated me extremely poorly, incompetently promised me things they couldn’t deliver, or who seemed to feel truly ashamed of the company they worked for. At this point I’m so sick of the process of getting these iPhones that all joy has gone out of it. I barely want to look at one, much less use one every day.

    We’ll see what comes next.

    Ok well, looks like I am not alone. Already a lot has been said so I will just quickly summarize my ongoing fiasco!

    July 24, order, by phone of iphone 3G, 16G, black. Told that stock is low so it might take up to August 16 but that is really a very last resort, worst case scenario.

    I call back every 4 or 5 days to see how things are going and if there is an update. Each time, the rep tells me my order is in the queue and I have to wait till the 16th.

    On July 31st, my colleague, on my advice, orders the same phone, the same way.

    On August 14th, I get a UPS notice at my office (they passed by while nobody was there). I get excited. When they come back the next day….hold on to your hats….it was my colleagues phone. He ordered it 1 week AFTER me and had already received it!

    I call Fido CS to ask WTF and they say they have no idea why…it must have been a mistake…my order is still not ready and I have to wait.

    I call back on the 16th because I still don’t have my phone and they tell me the date is now pushed out to August 29th max. Wow! No use complaining, what can I do.

    I call again on August 21st and they tell me “sir, we have told you many times now, the max date is August 29th. It won’t help you to keep calling. your order is being processed but not ready”! So rude!

    So I wait till August 29th. Of course, no phone. I call and speak to a rep who starts off by telling me that the notes on my account say I ordered a 8G model! OMG!!!! Then she puts me on hold and comes back to say that she cannot see anywhere that the order was actually placed. All she can do is now re-sumbit a new order! I am ready to shoot the poor girl.

    So now my next max date is September 12th. Who knows what is really going on. I don’t believe anyone anymore. It will come when it comes. Just how can people be so incompetant. For 5 or 6 calls in August, everyone told me the order was in process…nobody mentioned it never having been sent in! And so…..we wait!

    I ordered an iphone with FIDO last mid Aug and I’m still waiting for it until now. They said there would be 3 weeks delay but it was more than that. After 2 weeks waiting I decided to call them to check if its coming and they said that the order was refused. I was suppose to get an email or phone call from them telling me that I wont be getting it and the worst thing about it is the Rep. made a mistake on the order that is why it was refused. On Sept 4 I had to re-order the iphone again. I was hoping to get it before my bday as a gift for myself but….nothing..Everysince last week I’ve been buggin them almost everyday about it but they keep telling me different dates. I dont know what to believe anymore. I ask them if they can give me a tracking number and did not gave me straight answer…..Now that my data plan is already activated, its useless and a waste because I’m paying for something I don’t even have.

    I think ever since FIDO was bought by ROGERS everything got screwed up. Don’t even start me up with ROGERS….they are totally screwed too.

    I guess I have to wait some more days…..

    I would just like to thank this site for helping me get the advice of getting an iPhone in-store. It started around last year when I heard Apple was selling iPhones but lacked any 3G as well as others features.

    Fast forward late July this year when I was deciding to buy an iPhone 3G. This site really helped me with its pros and cons, features it lacked versus features that stood out. Around August I’ve decided, I WILL GET THIS PHONE.

    And how many phone calls did it take me before I got to a store that had one? TWO. The one in Richmond Aberdeen Mall had one iPhone available (it was on a Sunday). So after work I drove over and got it.

    Thanks to ruff’s advice I by-passed the Fido CSRs and just went straight to the store. Now I await my bill and hope everything there is in order. *cross fingers*

    WOW..I ordered on Sep 4th, was given latest deadline of Sep 15th. Waited until Sep 16 no phone, no tracking # or any email confirmation so Called Fido Sep 16th, CSR says the order was just put in on Sep 12th and is being processed and shiped out to you. Fine, called the next day to see if they have a tracking #, No, not only they have no tracking number but they have now a different story, the phone is out of stock for the model i ordered and the latest arrival date is now changed to sep 23rd. I ask to speak to the supervisor, he tells me he guarantees that I will have the phone by Sep 23rd the latest as the first batch of the phones were sold out and I’m on the 2nd batch and should receive the phone any day until Sep 23rd. No problem. I call back 3 days later and hear a totally different story…once again!!!! CSR says we were sold out of the phones and i’m in the queue for their next batch which my latest date of delivery will be Oct 1st….at this point i was so frustrated I just hang up…I calmed down (lol) and after an hour called back…BIG MISTAKE…another CSR tells me no tracking number because it’s not being processed yet…I’m sorry you ordered the White 16 gig and it’s out of stock and the earliest you can receive is Oct 10th!!!!!I’m even more frustrated and ask to speak to yet another supervisor…this supervisor was the rudest of all…he went on with saying yes the csr was right and you’ll just have to wait until Oct 10th, and that will be the earliest you can get it…I asked numerous times if I could just go to any Fido store and pick one up..they said nope you renewed your contract already here and you’ll have to wait for 6 months in to your new contract so the earliest you can get your iphone is to wait till mid october….
    At this point I was just too frustrated to spend another minute on the phone with this unprofessional supervisor so I once again hung up. I called the next day and asked to speak to Customer relations…after a long story and holding for 15 min, he said the exact same thing…I asked why is it that the first supervisor told me the latest guaranteed date is Sep 23rd?? he said I have no idea…we don’t know where that date came from…he said he could see it in the worklog that he promised you that date but the only thing he could think of was that maybe the supervisor was thinking about the black 16gig…I said if they’d told me White was out of stock I wouldve chosen the black instead cuz i really had a hard time choosing between the two….he said he was surprised that the first CSR who took the original order on Sep 4th didn’t tell me White was out of stock??? I am soooooooooooo disappointed with Fido…I’ve thought about cancelling the account and going somewhere else..i just can’t let go of my 45$ cityfido plan…The funny thing is that the customer relation guy told me something really interesting…he said since my account was an exception it was being treated poorly…as if someone who ordered the phone at the same exact time as I did would’ve received it latest Sep 10th or 11th.

    same thing with me….ordered my 16gb white iphone through fido on sept 4th called back after the latest delivery date which was the 15th and they said your order was processed on the 14th so the date is now the 23rd and 22nd has come today and i called and there is no tracking info or anything now they said that the phone went out of stock on the 11th which is stupid because i did order mine on the 4th lol…but ya it went out of stock on the 11th and they are waiting for there new shipment which normally takes 1-2 weeks the csr said it should be arriving anyday now because its been nearly 2 weeks…and he says to expect my phone maybe end of this week or next week some time….im pretty choked at this because its stupid i could’ve just went to the dam store and got a iphone over the counter and be done with it

    Well I still haven’t received my phone yet and it is past the 2nd maximum delivery date which was Sep 23rd. I phoned today and i was shocked to get the maximum delivery date of Oct 13th. I hung up and called again and another csr said you should recieve today or end of this week the latest…i asked if I was a new customer and wanted to order a new white 16 gig when would be the latest delivery time???he said Oct 3rd!!! so isn’t it stupid that everytime you call they give you different answers??? so if I ordered Sep 4th, my latest delivery time would Oct 13th, but if someone ordered today they would recieve it 10 days before me??!!!!!!!!!!! I asked if i could cancel, Nope you can’t cancel as you have to wait for the phone to arrive and than refuse delivery!!! I’ve had it with Fido really!! if they had told me they wouldn’t process my order on the 4th but a week and half after….it’s funny they always ask which phone did you order the white or black?? and whatever color you say they tell you yah..that one …it’s out of stock!!!!! one time i lied and said i ordered black 16 gig…he said oh ya the black one…just because its black and really popular we are out of stock…i said so if i had ordered the white 16 I would’ve recieved by now??he said oh yeah..i said oh i did…i ordered the white one!! he said oh yeah i meant to say the white one is popular and out of stock………..

    Hi Paul, not trying to scare you or anything but i ordered mine on Sep 4th and still haven’t got it yet!!! at one point my latest delivery time has gone up to Oct 13th…just imagine ordering Sep 4th and latest delivery Oct 13th!!!!! just letting you know!!! call them now and ask if your order has even been processed? they processed my order on the 12th which is over 1 week and half…but as of today Sep 25th i still haven’t received it yet!!!and they still have no tracking number for me!!!

    Hi Mina, well for now i know that fido is out of stock on the iphones…i called like 4 times the other day and wanted to know whats going on with that and they told me that it was delayed so i asked to talk to a supervisor and he told me that their currently outta stock they ran out around the 11th or something and i guess they still haven’t received stock yet which is retarded but hopefully they will be coming soon i made quite a big deal and threatened to call my lawyer and whatever but nothing lol god dam fido…

    Just wanted to update you on my phone’s status!! well i’ve been playing with my phone since Sep 26th. That’s right! I got mine but not from UPS but i went straight to the store and picked up a phone…not white cuz they were out but a nice shiny black 16 gig…..And guess what, I still haven’t received the one from FIDO!!!!!! I’m supposed to return the one as it’s being delivered and refuse the package!!! I was on the phone for 3 hours on 26th and finaly got an exception to just go pick one up from the store…i asked why this wasn’t done sooner? he said you’re a special case, they opened a case for me 2 weeks ago and still nothing on that case so this “very nice and professianl person” did this for me!!!
    Gotta admit…love the phone!!!

    I got my 3g 4 business days after ordering it on the phone. This was september 17th. I got it on the tuesday, would have had it on the monday but the UPS driver didn’t read the note to deliver it to my office address rather than my home address, joys of UPS accounts. Other than that, I got mine no problem.

    Call and say you want costumer relation, say it’s about possible cancelation, CSR will say absolutely, once you get transfered say you really need to cancel this account as your brother/sister has ordered the phone 1 week after you and he/she has already received the phone. This is not acceptable to you and that you have opened a case with FIdo last Monday and still haven’t gotten anywhere!!! Tell him they better cancel your contract now so you can go pick up a phone from the store or you want the account cancelled RIGHT NOW!!! He’ll probably start off by saying we can’t cancel your account BS that you’ll have to refuse delivery of the phone blah blah…but tell him NO, Cancel MY CONTRACT and you will renew at the store!!!! that’s how I got mine!!! I have a really good plan 40$ city fido plan unlimited everything!!!!!!!and I still have it!!!

    hey Mina got my iphone today from the store complained talked to the manager and whatever and he cancelled the order all together and i picked one up from the store so i dont have to wait for it to come in the mail either to refuse it….not bad i guess but still waited 1 month lol

    yeah same here…waited over 25 days…but hey it worked for me & for you i’m sure it’ll work for others as well!!!!!!! btw, you know how i got to this? I was calling them 4-5 times a day everyday so I guess they were getting really tired of me!!! every csr was putting me on hold to read the 25 pages of worklog written by other csr’s LOL

    3g is pretty good, i live in Vancouver and yes i’m with fido!! I got the phone pretty much for free…300$ fido dollars + renewing contract for 50$ and 22.50 off first month and free data for the first month!!….from what i just said i think fido will be owing me money the first month LOL

    what the hell 300$ fido dollars lol….thats retarded how you get so many :P ….and ya the 3g is pretty good in vancouver i live in abbotsford its pretty good down here i havent went into edge yet in town and its always full in van for sure…but my iphone goes into roaming once in awhile since abby is close to the boarder so i had to call them and get a roaming block put on which is kinda gay cuz i got to seattle a lot and i have to take the block off every time i go

    After read all the discussion I am kind of worry now.
    I order my I-phone with FIDO on September 16 2008 and till now I didn’t receive yet
    Call FIDO more then 10 times and still the same give me another date again and again.

    Just now I call again and FIDO agent told me that I should receive my phone by October 15 2008 (its under process with UPS)

    Well fido said to me that people should expect to recieve them by november 1st…its part of the adapter problem and because there on backorder alot….fido customer service blowsssss i just snapped on the phone for a while and they finally put me through to a manager put in a investigation and the manager cancelled my order and let me get it from a strore

    Ordered an 8G on Oct 2.
    Apparently it was shipped on the 19th but they don’t have a tracking number from UPS.
    After verifying with UPS that tracking numbers are assigned when shipments are processed, I called Fido back and asked to talk to a supervisor right away.
    The supervisor’s words of wisdom? “Our tracking website is down.”
    I had to disconnect before I started letting loose with my true opinions on that one

    hey alisha i got a friend who works for fido and what he told me is why no one has recieved their iphones yet is because they are still on back order and they aint getting them anytime soon so if i were you i would get ahold of a manager over the phone and pressure them to cancel the order and go get it from a store….thats what i did cancelled it over the phone and i picked it up the same day from a store
