Windows users, WinPwn 2.0 has finally been released. Now you can jailbreak your iPhone 3G, or update and unlock your first gen iPhone at 2.0. It will also jailbreak an iPod touch. It will work with XP or Vista. This is good for Windows users because I bet you were getting anxious to get going after Pwnage 2.0 was released for Macs. No more waiting!
I was unable to get WinPwn 2.0 running in VMware Fusion on my Mac so I am not able to make a video. I will post a video later if I’m able to get things running or once I find a good one.
However, here is a full instruction guide provided by iFoneNation.com. Full credit goes to them.
I just was able to jailbreak a first gen iPhone running 2.0 firmware with the new WinPwn 2.0 software for Windows. Here’s how I did it:
First of all, Jailbreaking is not something that I would recommend. If you proceed know that there is a possibility of damage to your device and that by jailbreaking/attempting to jailbreak you will void your warranty. There are other warnings that apply here so be sure to read the readme file that will pop up once you have installed WinPwn 2.0. If none of this scares you then proceed:
Important Notes
Remove Winpwn 1.0 completely if you have it installed. Installing over the top of WinPwn 1.0 will cause problems.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes ( Currently 7.7)
If you already have service with AT&T do not activate or install Youtube Fix
The First Step: Backup all of your data before you go any further. Otherwise, you risk losing it all!!! You will need to download a copy of WinPwn 2.0.
The Second Step: Install the software (easy enough but I am putting it down for you here so you can see exactly what I saw and compare it to what you are seeing.
Extract the files to your desktop and you will see this icon:
Click on it and you will be presented with the setup screen:
Click on Run and you will get this screen:
Read the instructions, follow them then click Next and you will get this screen:
Click Next and you will see this screen:
Select the location you would like to install the software to then click Install (I just left this default and let it install to my Program Files folder). You will get a brief glimpse of the install process and then be presented with this screen (sorry, it went too fast for my screen capture software or I’d show you that too):
Click Finish
The Third Step: You will now have an icon on your desktop that looks like this:
Make sure that you have iTunes running then click the new icon and the program will launch. You will see the Haz WinPwn kitty cat for a few seconds and then the program (be prepared to wait about 10 to 15 seconds for it to initialize):
You will probably see the following errors appear in the program’s status window. This is ok.:
You will notice that some of the buttons on the left hand side of the program are greyed out. This is normal:
The Fourth Step: You will need to have a copy of firmware. I used this one (NOTE: THIS IS AN IPHONE ONLY FIRMWARE). Click the Browse .ipsw button:
Then you will be given a browse box. Locate your firmware file, select it then click Open:
If all goes well you will see the following in the WinPwn status box:
Your iPhone should be connected to your computer at this time!
The Fifth Step: Create a custom firmware. Click the ipsw builder button:
And you will see this screen:
Do not check the Install Cydia box because there is a problem that hopefully will be worked out tomorrow. Check the YouTube activation fix boxes: (I have service with AT&T so I am not checking YouTube fix or activating as instructed above).
Tomorrow we should be able to do this:
Click the Custom Images tab at the top of the WinPwn screen:
Put a checkmark in the Use Custom Pictures box and you will be given some options. You can also load your own by clicking on the Boot Logo or Restore Logo buttons (files must be in .BMP, .PNG or .JPG format).
Download your bootloaders here.
I’m not sure about payloads (anybody know?)
Check what you want to do (I only added the bootloaders in this tab)
Active phone (If you already have a phone activated through AT&T do not select this)
Wipe everything
Baseband Updater
Neuter Bootloader
Downgrade 3.9
Unlock
Auto delete
Add bootloaders
At this point you are ready to create your custom firmware. Click the Build .ipsw button:
Choose a location for the custom firmware (I left it in the installer cache file folder) to be saved and give it a name:
The rest is simple:
The Sixth Step: Wait until your custom .ipsw file is created (May take a few minutes).
The Seventh Step: Click “Ipwner” and browse for the custom IPSW that you just created. This will pwn iTunes and allow you to flash Custom IPSW files via DFU mode.
The Eighth Step: Once you have pwned ITunes, put your phone into DFU mode.
The Ninth Step: Once you are in DFU mode Itunes will pop up and then you can hold shift and click restore and browse to your custom IPSW file.
The Tenth Step: Wait for a while (it will depend on all of the information that you have on your iPhone).
The Eleventh Step: Enjoy your phone.

Just did it, perfect with 3.9. Thanks pwn developers, you rock!!!!!
to some fellas, I’m able to search the online logo on XP but needs to restart sometimes.
Questions: what’s the diff between 3.9 and 4.6, which one should be used?

Oh, got another question, anyone knows how to block EDGE with 2.0 with winpwn 2.0? I didn’t installed the Cydia as specified and I’m with ATT.

I’m having some problems…can’t seem to find the answer yet.
Keep getting “failed to create custom IPSW”.
At least I’m not bricked!

Hello Canada!
I have updated these instructions since they were posted here. It was very late last night when I put the instructions above together. This new edition fills some of the gaps and addresses some of the problems that users reported. You can view them here: http://www.ifonenation.com/2008/07/24/winpwn-20-jailbreak-using-windows-instructions/
Or the guys at ehphone.ca can post them.
Y’all have fun and don’t forget to digg!

Surprised this post is so dead. Id’ve thought that a lot of people would be doing this?

Can you go straight from 1.02 to 2.0 with this software?
I am afraid to try it..

@ Miche
Yes you can go from 1.0.2 to 2.0.
If you just restored your iPhone in iTunes now, it would be to 2.0. But of course it would be locked then. By doing this method, you customize the firmware to unlock it etc, then just restore to that firmware thru iTunes. You should be fine.

I succeeded in upgrading both my wife’s and my phones. They were respectively an unlocked 1.1.1 (don’t know method by which it was unlocked), and an unlocked 1.1.3 (ziphoned). The whole pwnage was flawless and now we are happy owner of first gen 2.0 phones.
A word of caution though, DO NOT USE the winpwn, I had major headaches and after trying it like 7 times on the 1.1.1 phone it bricked it. Luckily I could revive it using the pwnage tool on Mac OS. Moral: Use the Mac version.
