NES ROMs have probably been the most popular games for jailbroken iPhones. If you’ve had a first gen iPhone, you’ve likely had NES ROMs on it. Nintendo games have always been fun to play, even after the ancient game system has probably been retired from your household long ago. It’s pretty easy to add them. There are hundreds of games available, best of all, it’s free. You are looking at up to $9.99 for games in the App store, not here though.
Remember, you do need a jailbroken iPhone 3G, or jailbroken iPhone/iPod touch at 2.0 for this to work. You will have to have the OpenSSH program installed on your iPhone as well. If you are not familiar with OpenSSH, see the guide here.
Here’s a video demontration on how to add NES ROMs to your iPhone:
Steps:
1. Install NES and OpenSSH onto your iPhone from Cydia
2. Install an FTP program on your computer - For Mac users, Cyberduck is a good choice. For Windows users, WinSCP is a good choice.
3. Download your favorite ROMs from http://www.theoldcomputer.com
4. Use OpenSSH to access your iPhone’s root directory.
5. The directory for the NES ROMs is - /var/mobile/media/ROMs/NES - note the ROMs and NES is case sensitive. You will have to create these two folders.
6. Put the rom files into this directory and enjoy.
Here’s how the games look:

What are your favorite NES games? Mine are Lemmings, Double Dragon, Punch Out, and Super Mario Bros 3.
